This recipe exists for the same reason a lot of useful dinners exist: I wanted a meal that could be assembled from one decent grocery stop and a working rice cooker.
The shaved steak does most of the labor. The sauce just needs enough heat, sweetness, and acid to keep it from tasting flat.
